18"H x 28.5"W x 1/2"D: Matte Acrylics on Birch Veneer Plywood

DETAIL
This series tracks July 22nd temperatures across 72 years (1953-2024) in 24 American cities.
Each painting contains 72 quarter-inch stripes stacked chronologically, with six cities per panel moving west to east.
Colors map to temperature: reds/blacks above 93°F, oranges in the high 70s-low 80s, yellows in the 60s-low 70s, greens in the 50s, blues in the 40s.
Carved grooves beneath each stripe, painted in daily low temperatures, reveal how the arid West cools dramatically at night while eastern humidity retains heat
and how nighttime cooling diminishes everywhere over decades.
Carved into half-inch birch plywood, 18" x 28.5" each, these pieces visualize a single date as evidence of environmental change.
